The Beginning of BSD Unix fosscomics.com

The Foss Comics story traces BSD’s early development at UC Berkeley: Bill Joy assembled the first Berkeley Software Distribution in 1977, then created 2BSD with tools including vi and the C shell. It also recounts how Joy and graduate student Ozalp Babaoglu added virtual memory to VAX Unix, producing 3BSD, which began shipping in December 1979 and drew interest from DARPA.
