Commonwealth Fusion Systems will receive $85 million through a U.S. Department of Commerce CHIPS Act award to develop and manufacture semiconductors for fusion power plants; the award also gives the government a stake in the company. CFS plans to fund work on silicon carbide power electronics, radio-frequency generators, radiation-hardened reactor controls and adapting AI chips for power plants.
