Electric vehicles accounted for 24.2% of Australia’s new-car sales in September, outselling petrol cars for the second consecutive month, according to data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries. The Tesla Model Y led EV sales with 4,476, followed by the BYD Sealion 7 with 2,687 and the Geely EX5 with 2,008; battery EVs have taken 18.9% of sales so far in 2026, up from 8.1% at the same point last year.
