The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired defenseman Rinat Valiev and forward Miles Wood from Columbus in exchange for forward William Nylander and a conditional second-round pick (the lower of Toronto's two picks). Toronto retained 18% of goaltender Elvis Merzlikins' $5.4 million salary, making his cap hit $4.428 million, allowing the team to operate under the salary cap using long-term injured reserve and potentially add another player.
